Celebrating Addy Porter

By Kate Merritt
With over 30 years with The John Thomas Dye School's youngest students, longtime teacher Addy Porter was celebrated as she finished her last year in the classroom.
Current and past faculty and staff, current students and their parents, alumni, past parents, and Addy's family and friends flocked to JTD's campus to celebrate Addy's long career.

In addition to serving as both a preschool and Kindergarten teacher at JTD, Addy launched the Service Learning Program at JTD, so guests were encouraged to participate in various service projects to benefit various non-profits that the School partners with. Guests made blankets for One Voice to distribute, decorated cards for students receiving free school supplies through School on Wheels, goodie bags for patients at Saban Community Clinic, and purchased lemonade from members of the Third Grade Service Learning club which was donated to Tree People.

Guests heard from Head of School Rose Helm, former teaching partner Kristin Evans, and Addy's daughters. Her current Kindergarten teaching team treated guests to a special song, sung by puppets, in typical Addy style, and in addition to a number of special gifts, Addy was presented with a custom puppet designed to look like her Kindergarten Nutcracker Mother Ginger character!

A big congratulations to Addy on an incredible teaching career. We hope that you enjoy retirement!
