Grade 1

Grade 1 is an exciting year at JTD as students move from the Kindergarten campus to the main campus and become a part of the larger JTD community.
Classrooms on the main campus are sectioned into two classes of 24-26 students with two co-teachers so that every child receives optimal support. Grade 1 students work to solidify their mastery of reading and writing in our balanced literacy curriculum and further their understanding of mathematical concepts through the Singapore math approach. Character development continues to play an important role in the curriculum as teachers nurture and encourage the students’ understanding and application of The 5C’s: Caring, Common Sense, Consideration, Cooperation, and Courtesy.
Grade 1 Halfover
The Halfover is one of the time honored and treasured traditions of The John Thomas Dye School. Grade 1 students return to school for a special dinner and evening with their teachers and classmates.
Students particularly enjoy playing games, engaging in a cross-campus scavenger hunt, and showing off their many talents at a grade level talent show. The teachers always have a few fun surprises up their sleeves as well!
